The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has appointed Harald Fries (left) and Rupert Douglas-Jones as technical officers.

The organisation stated that the appointments have been made in a bid to add depth and innovation to its technical and safety department.

Fries will operate from IPAF’s office in Basel, Switzerland. A qualified electrical engineer, his background is in safety processes and nuclear energy. Fries has held numerous safety director positions in the nuclear energy industry, and has hands-on experience of operating mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). In addition, Fries speaks German, English, and French.

Douglas-Jones will be based in IPAF’s head office in the UK. A seasoned MEWP instructor with more than two decades of experience in the access industry, he has assumed a selection of management roles during his career. Douglas-Jones holds a Master’s Degree in Health, Safety, and Environmental Law, and has been called upon as an expert witness.

Both Fries and Douglas-Jones will report to Chris Wraith, IPAF’s technical and safety executive.

Commenting on IPAF’s latest technical officer appointments, Wraith said: “Between us, we now have an increased range of experience and knowledge in the technical safety department.

“[This will enable] us to offer greater support to our members, undertake specific research projects, and influence European and international developments in the market,” he added.
