MAN Truck & Bus Middle East recently took part in a ‘Road Safety for Commercial Driving’ seminar hosted by the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network. The session, hosted by Hans-Joachim Neumann, head of training, MAN, placed a special emphasis on the importance of combining behavioral and technological measures to tackle the issue of accidents involving commercial vehicles.
According to Neumann, supporting the introduction of road transport governance regulations, education for transport operators / enforcement officers and enforcing mandatory vehicle specification standards for new commercial vehicle deliveries could have a huge impact on improving road safety standards in the UAE and the region as a whole.
Neumann highlighted that intelligent safety and driver assistance systems as well as correct load positioning can have a significant impact on road safety. “There’s no doubt that education is an integral part of road safety. MAN’s research and experience as a full transport solution provider have revealed that the impact of driver education and training is hugely and commonly underestimated. MAN’s ProfiDrive program ensures that the functions of the vehicle are fully and correctly utilized; driver behaviour and productivity are improved; safety increased; fuel consumption reduced; and engine idle time and usage of breaks decreased,” he said.
Franz von Redwitz, managing director, MAN Truck & Bus Middle East FZE, said: “It is crucial to regularly conduct trainings and seminars as vehicle technologies are constantly changing and developing and professional drivers need to be able to adapt in order to ensure safe roads for all.”
