Volvo Construction Equipment has become the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to sign up to the Institute of Quarrying’s Corporate Professional Competence initiative.
The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme is designed to help stakeholders to maintain and update their knowledge and skills.
Volvo CE’s involvement was announced during a ceremony at Hillhead 2014, a quarrying, construction, and recycling trade show that took place recently in the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made by Colin Jenkins, president of the Institute of Quarrying. Jenkins was joined onstage by Paul Kersley, Volvo CE’s director of service and engineering, who emphasised that he and his colleagues were delighted to be collaborating with the Institute.
As a key supplier to the quarrying industry, Kersley said that Volvo CE recognises the important role played by individual learning and development in meeting customer needs.
He also commented that initiatives such as the CPD scheme reflect the commitment of the Swedish manufacturer and the Institute of Quarrying towards securing competence for future business needs.
Volvo CE manufactures a range of quarrying equipment, including wheel loaders, articulated haulers, and hydraulic excavators. The Institute of Quarrying, meanwhile, boasts more than 50,000 members in over 50 countries.
