The SS Lootah Group has completed a pilot scheme that uses biodiesel derived from discarded cooking oil to power its fleet of heavy trucks.

The biodiesel project is a voluntary application of using 5% of biodiesel in operating heavy vehicles.

The initiative is the latest in several programmes by Lootah aiming to spread environmental awareness. The Green Car Program has seen a great progression since inception starting from conversion of part of company fleet to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), followed by the use of hybrid and electric cars in recent years.

Commenting on the project, Yousif Saeed Lootah, Board Member of S.S. Lootah Group, said: “The pilot project comes as part of the group’s strategic commitment over many years to implement best practices and introduce new technologies and approaches that help reduce our carbon footprint.”

Yousif Lootah added that the group has been keen on showcasing tangible environmental and economic benefits in the transportation sector being at the forefront of embracing new technologies.
