The UAE has signed defence contracts at a total value of $1 billion on the fourth day of the 10th International Defence Conference and Exhibition (IDEX 2011), IDEX Spokesperson Major General Obaid Al Ketbi announced on Wednesday.

Among the major announcements today were a $242 million contract with C4 Advanced Solutions for developing and upgrading of networks and provision of technical manpower.

”Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company was awarded a $218 million contract for purchase of RAM missiles, Al Ketbi said.

With the $2.2 billion worth of defence deals signed on the second and third day of the event, Wednesday’s announcements brought to $3.2 billion the total value of contracts the UAE so far at IDEX.

Under a healthcare contract of $163 million, the Global Medical Solutions will provide medical manpower to the UAE Armed Forces Medical Services.

Al Yah Satellite Communications Company won a contract worth $150 million for operation and maintenance of the terrestrial satellite stations and training of national professionals.
