The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) estimates that $ 11 billion worth of construction equipment was exported from the US in the first six months of the year, an increase of 48% on the previous year.

Exports to Latin America dominate the top ten destinations for US equipment although sales to China almost doubled as they grew by 98%.

“Exports remain a bright spot for the US construction machinery manufacturing industry with continued weakness in the domestic workplace,” said Al Cervero, AEM VP. “Pro-American export policies such as free trade agreements are proven to spur economic growth which means manufacturers can provide more jobs for US workers.”

The top 10 export destinations for American-made construction equipment during the first half of 2011 were:

1. Canada: US$ 3.4 billion – up +43%

2. Australia: US$ 1 billion – up +61%

3. Mexico: US$ 742 million – up +35%

4. Chile: US$ 608 million – up +32%

5. China: US$ 480 million – up +98%

6. Brazil: US$ 480 million – up +28%

7. Colombia: US$ 419 million – up +121%

8. South Africa: US$ 325 million – up +88%

9. Russia: US$ 319 million – up +195%

10. Peru: US$ 290 million – up +72%
