The number of injuries from road accidents during last week’s Eid al Fitr holidays in the UAE fell from 143 in 2010 to 78, according to the police.
Ten people were killed in accidents, down from 14 in 2010. Police in Abu Dhabi also reported that 198 traffic accidents were recorded during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, a fall of 23% from last year.

Al Zaabi’s observations were echoed by the Royal Oman Police which has reported that most of the 28 fatalities that occurred in the sultanate during the holidays were caused by speeding and reckless overtaking.
