Scania and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) have signed an MoU with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs for the establishment of an academy for vocational training in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Minister of Labor Asus Najeeb said that UNIDO will provide $3.5 million of funding for the school.
Scania is an important supplier and employer in the commercial vehicles sector in the emerging Iraq market, it opened a new facility in the city of Erbil, a strategic entry point to Iraq located in the northern Kurdish territories, in May 2010.
“The MoU was reached with Scania and (UNIDO) to establish a vocational training academy. The academy costs $3.5 million paid by the UN,” said Najeeb. “The most important thing in the implementation of that project is finding work opportunities for the unemployed youth.”
