Two truck drivers cheated death when their vehicles slid off an icy mountain road and plunged 200ft down a snow-covered cliff face.
The incident occurred on Sunday after a Volvo semi carrying a trailer of cargo ground to a halt while trying to negotiate a serpentine mountain road near Leirfjord, 700km north of Norway’s capital Oslo.
Police say the truck wasn’t fitted with the correct tyres for winter conditions.
The truck was hooked to a rescue vehicle and was being guided to a safe place to park when the incident occurred. Video shot from a car following shows what happened next. The Volvo slid into and through an Armco barrier and tipped over the cliff edge, taking the tow-truck with it. The tow-truck driver managed to jump clear, but the Lithuanian truck driver went down with his truck. He survived the incident but suffered broken bones.
