Online used heavy-machinery market place IronPlanet has announced an app that will allow buyers to search and bid on vehicles, wherever they are.

The free app, for iPhone or Android smartphones, was launched at Intermat and can be used to search global inventory by equipment category, or auction date, from user’s mobile devices.
Users can review inspection reports, add items to their ‘watch list’ and place bids.

Users can also view live auctions and real-time bidding activity from their phones. The mobile app provides instant alerts to the buyer when they have either won the item or been outbid.

Machines for sale are given an independent inspection by IronPlanet’s inspectors, with the report available online, meaning potential buyers do not need to view machines before bidding. Iron Planet guarantees the accuracy of the information about the machine’s condition.

“IronPlanet’s mobile app provides equipment buyers mobile access to weekly auctions, global inventory and our exclusive IronClad Assurance,” said IronPlanet chairman and CEO Greg Owens.

IronPlanet was launched in the USA in 2001, and held its first European auction in 2009. It began hosting auctions in Dubai in 2011.

Globally the auction company has 750,000 users.
