Liebherr has expanded its offering of mobile construction cranes to the UAE market with the introduction of the MK 100/110 model.
The model is now being sold new, while previously it has been sold used.
Jörg Müller, area sales manager for Liebherr Middle East, said that since mid-2010 company has ended its relationship with their UAE dealer, and is now supplying direct to the market in the UAE, and can provide full service support. The company is continuing to work with partners in other countries in the GCC.
Müller believes the MK 100/110 mobile construction crane will be an attractive offering to the market, since it can be used in a number of jobs where a mobile crane would not be able to be used as efficiently.
Whereas mobile cranes are telescoping, mobile construction cranes have a vertical tower, which allows the erection and operation of the crane directly alongside a building or object.
With the base snug against the building, the jib’s full 52-metre working radius can be utilised, with a maximum weight of 1800kg at the full range, and an 8 tonne lifting capacity to a range of 14 metres.
The crane also has a 15°, 30° and the 45° jib positions for high working heights.
The crane uses a trolley in the same manner as a tower crane.
Müller believes that there will be a particular appeal for the Oil & Gas sector, where plant shut-downs for maintenance or remedial work can cost large sums of money, with the MK range known for completing jobs in fast order.
The crane can be erected by one man using remote control in 20 minutes, and can be driven to the next job or moved quickly on-site.
The model has also proved its worth in Europe, operating in built-up areas with minimal disruption to traffic flows. It is also able to be raised in narrow spaces.
“There is a demand for this model, such as jobs where you have safety zones, at night on a busy street, or in Oil & Gas. The principle [of the MK crane] quite good, but it is not well-known.”
Müller says the new model will arrive in Dubai at the end of May, with demonstrations likely to be carried out mid-June. The crane will also be presented at the Intermat Middle East exhibition in Abu Dhabi 8-10 October.
