DP World Sokhna in Egypt has received two new STS (ship-to-shore) gantry cranes, manufactured by ZPMC of China, the same company which recently delivered STS cranes to the new Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi.
The two crane were brought to port by the vessel Zhen-Hua 18 and off-loaded in what the port company described as “a meticulously planned exercise executed by DP World Sokhna management and engineers”.
The Super Post Panamax quay cranes have a capacity of 65 tonnes each and a reach of 24 rows of containers.
That compares with 5the STS cranes delivered to Abu Dhabi, which are among the largest of their kind in the world at 44m high under the spreader and a lifting capacity of 110t.
The DP World Sokhna gantry cranes will join the two existing gantry cranes to increase productivity and efficiency at the port, which connects Cairo to the Europe-Asia sea trade route passing through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea.
ZPMC is one of the largest manufacturers of cranes in the world. A state-owned enterprise, it is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction (CCCC).
China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), another subsidiary of CCCC, won the $879 million phase 1 excavation contract for the New Doha Port.
