The Middle East market for attachments remains immature and has significant growth potential, said Karl Fakhoury, Montabert’s district attachments manager for Middle East and Africa.

Speaking with PMV at the Intermat show in Abu Dhabi, Fakhoury said that the market for attachment products in the Middle East is expanding year after year. Breakers are the most popular product type.

“Still it is an immature market, but the applications are numerous. Today attachments facilitate efficiency of the work, and bring solutions to the work that contractors are looking for.”

According to Fakhoury, the key to expanding the market is education of buyers.

“Machines [such as excavators] are simple, and you need only educate operators, but for attachments they are a solution which you bring, so you need to know exactly what the job is so that you can choose the right tool from the range of attachments. This requires education and experience.”

Montabert, which has been in the Middle East for more than 25 years, has a range of attachment products, including breakers from 50kg up to 6.5 tonnes.

A new attachment in the line is the Montabert crusher bucket, which can be used as a mini-crusher on an excavator. The main advantage of the mini-crusher is an ability to be able to recycle material on site, avoiding transportation elsewhere to a crusher. Its maximum productivity is 50 cubic metres per hour.

Montabert was acquired by Doosan in 2007, but its operations remain based in Lyon, where it was founded in 1921.
