Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment sold 10 machines worth over $2.7m (AED10m) at the Intermat Middle East exhibition, held over three days in Abu Dhabi in October.
While some at the show were critical of the total number of visitors, which they judged to be low, the organisers have heralded it as a success. More than 5,500 attendees visited the show across the three days, travelling to Abu Dhabi from around the Middle East, though event organisers had predicted that 7,000 would visit the show.
Nevertheless, many exhibitors were happy with the quality of the visitors.
“Intermat Middle East is a very successful event. We met excellent contractors from across the Middle East – UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and others,” said Gaby Rhayem, Doosan’s regional director – Middle East.
Doosan had both an indoor stand with machines and an outdoor display, which proved to be a wise move, with temperatures outdoors reaching 40°.
“We were extremely fortunate to acquire great contacts with senior executives and decision-makers over the three days of the event. Doosan sold more than 10 machines valued at over Dhs10m during this exhibition, and we are certainly looking forward to participating next year as well.”
“Millions of dollars of orders”
A key account manager from the French company BEHM International, which sells a number of products supporting the heavy vehicles industry, Laurent Zanni, said that one strength of the show was the opportunity to meet government officials from a number of GCC countries.
“We got the opportunity to meet government officials from other GCC countries – which included representatives from the Office of the Minister of State, and Governor of Dhofar from the Sultanate of Oman.
“Intermat Middle East was able to attract senior-level executives and directors that are very knowledgeable about the products, which makes networking and building business relationships very interesting for us,” she said.
According to organisers, the exhibition “saw millions of dollars of orders placed and new contacts made with senior-level executives from the region’s most thriving construction companies”.
“These senior-level purchasing negotiations have helped to cement Intermat Middle East definitively as the industry’s annual meeting point.”
The third edition will be held in late 2013.
