SAT Group has launched its range of energy efficient Trion air filters in the Middle East by announcing that Dubai will be a ‘trendsetter’ for the GCC region in implementing greener buildings.
Graham Smith, consultant with SAT Group said: “Fifty percent of energy usage in the UAE is on air conditioning and the UAE is currently one of the top 50 polluters in the world. The mandate issued by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum enforcing green building will change this. Anywhere else in the GCC that has similar issues with energy usage will look to Dubai as a trendsetter for green buildings.”
The Trion range of electrostatic filters offer little air flow resistance into air conditioning units.
“This means that typical energy savings can be between 30-50%, compared with mechanical filters,” added Smith.
The company expects to see demand for electrostatic air purification to grow in light of the new green legislation.
“People have initially been put off by the cost, but with the mandate they are now more willing to look at energy efficient systems,” added Smith.
The company claims that the initially higher cost of installation can be recuperated in 24-26 months through savings on energy bills.
Waste management is also a key part of the Trion range’s reduced environmental impact. “Electrostatic filters simply need cleaning in water and do not need to be replaced like mechanical filters,” said Smith.
“Therefore there is no waste that needs to be incinerated or put in landfill sites.”
The company is confident that, as the first company in the region to offer ‘green’ filters, it will play a vital role in making Dubai a trendsetter for green building. Electrostatic filters have already been used at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and tower projects in Business Bay.
