Chinese equipment manufacturer XCMG has announced a world record for its 4000 tonne crawler crane, after it successfully completed the 4500 tonne overload test multiple times.
XCMG’s massive crawler crane, the XGC88000, is the largest capacity mobile crawler crane in the world, larger than Sany’s 3600t crawler which was exhibited at bauma China, and Liebherr’s LR 13000.
The order for the XGC88000 came from Sinopec, a Chinese state-owned oil and gas company, and the model is designed meet the demand for integral hoisting of the petrochemical, oil, nuclear power and chemical industries, said XCMG.
The testing of the crane included the lifting of 2500-tonne load test blocks with its 96 metres main arm on November 6, and lifting of the 4500-tonne test blocks with its 60 metres main arm on November 29.
“What is 4500 tons equivalent to? Suppose that the weight of a loaded truck is 10 tons, hoisting 4500 tons means elevating 450 loaded trucks.” said Sun Li, director of XCMG Construction Machinery Crawler Crane Research Institute.
“The superb hoisting capability is attributed to the advanced structure and layout of the crane.”
XCMG has applied for more than 10 national patents for the crane’s design, which includes a combined rotator device.
