A 240-tonne per hour capacity asphalt plant has been supplied by the Italian-Turkish partnership Sigma Asphalt Technology for a $300 million Omani road project.
The plant was successfully commissioned in December 2012, at the Sezai Turkes-Feyzi Akkaya (STFA) and Habtor Leighton Group (HLG) joint venture worksite in Ibra, Oman.
The two companies were awarded the contract for the dualisation of Bidbid-Sur Road, worth OR: 117m by Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) in September 2011.
The asphalt plant is equipped with two normal bitumen tanks and four polymer-modified bitumen tanks all heated by a 1m  kcal/h capacity thermal oil heater. The plant is controlled by a central computer inside the control cabin in fully automatic or manual modes. The two section hot-mix storage silos are located under the mixer with a capacity of 100 tonnes.
