Lehmann Aviation – a French company which makes drones used for non-military purposes such as scanning construction and mining sites, has launched a new model which it said can be operated using a tablet with Windows 8 installed.

The new LP960 is a “rugged, unmammed aerial platform” with a 16 megapixel camera and georeferencing equipment which can shoot video from a height of up to 5km.

As well as its use in construction and mining, the device can be used for mapping, agriculture and for calculating large volumes.

The drone can fly in winds of up to 45km/h at speeds of between 20-80km/h. It can operate in temperature ranges of -25°C to 60°C and weighs just 1,250g, which means it can be launched by hand.

The drone is priced at 6990€ (around $9100) and comes with 2 wings, electronic flying platform, common Lehmann Aviation ground control system, power system and a set of accessories. The software is included with the kit and is upgraded free of charge.
