An Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) campaign to raise awareness about safe driving practices on the Khalifa Port and around the Kizad industrial zone will reach over 2,000 truck drivers and transport managers in the region, said ADPC officials.

Launched on Sunday, 26 May 2013, at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, the ‘Be aware, drive with care’ campaign raised awareness of the safety regulations for driving in, and beyond, ADPC’s ports.

The truck drivers taking part could watch videos showing best practice examples and ways to avoid accidents and hazards while driving, enhancing the safety of the drivers themselves and all around them. Presentations were given in English, Urdu, Pashtu and Arabic.

It was run in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Emirates Driving Company.

Capt. Shamisi, acting CEO, ADPC said that “the safety of our staff and those around us is a top consideration for all of us at ADPC.

“Through this campaign we have been able to talk to more than 400 drivers each day, which means by the end of the week we will have reached out to around 2000 people. That will certainly have a positive impact on the driving practices in and around Khalifa Port and Kizad industrial zone.”

Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri of the Abu Dhabi Police added: “The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is witnessing rapid growth across various economic sectors, which is contributing to an unprecedented increase in traffic throughout the Emirate. As a result, campaigns such as this are important to ensure smooth traffic flow and improved traffic safety”.
