Rental company TSK supplied two Liebherr LR 1750 crawler cranes for use in the construction of a power plant in Central Thailand.
The cranes were used in tandem to erect the facility’s superstructure.
The 1,600MW gas-turbine combined-cycle power plant is located in the Nong Saeng District of Central Thailand’s Saraburi Province. It is being built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries under a turnkey contract for Gulf JP NS Co.
Once completed, the station’s two 800MW power-generation plant trains will support the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Both units are scheduled to go online during the latter half of 2014.
Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction – the contractor responsible for civil and installation works at the site – rented the Liebherr cranes on a six-month contract from Thai lifting specialist TSK Crane Service Co. The LR 1750 units are the largest capacity crawler cranes currently available for rental in Thailand.
Initially, the contractor intended to use a 750t crane and a 400t crane, each equipped with a superlift jib. However, TSK drafted a proposal, which was subsequently accepted, demonstrating the increased efficiency of two 750t crawlers operating in tandem.
The cranes’ main task was to construct four sets of heat-recovery steam-generator components for the power plant. The Liebherr crawlers operated at a height of 60m, with maximum loads of 190t and working radii of 30m.
TSK also provided a 250t Liebherr unit, and supported the cranes with a 10-strong crew. Following the projected completion of the power plant in February 2014, the Liebherr crawlers will be moved to the Uthai District in the Ayutthaya Province. Here, they will begin work on an identical plant.
