Dormer has re-launched its ‘product selector’ programme: a web-based application that provides guidance on machining solutions from a live database of more than 12,500 products.

The latest version of has been re-engineered to maximize ease of use, speed and compatibility with modern computers and operating systems.

The software allows users to access personalised advice on the best tool for a range of machining areas, including drilling, milling, threading and reaming. Dormer states that by simplifying product selection, the programme will save time and money that might otherwise be lost on materials or tools damaged through incorrect usage.

“This latest version of our product selector represents a significant step forward,” said project leader Ricky Payling. “For the first time, it will be available to use online…which will make it more accessible. The design and layout has been refreshed with minimal data input required. Most information can be selected either from drop-down lists or check boxes. This means the process is both quick and simple – even for first-time users.”

The ‘live’ nature of the web-based programme means that it is automatically updated whenever a new product is launched. Users can also access cost and tool-life comparison graphs for up to eight different products.

“Dormer was one of the first to launch this kind of tool selection software back in 1991, although it was available only on diskette at that time,” explained Payling. “We believe this latest version will enhance our global reputation for providing effective customer support.”
