International crane company Gustav A. Neeb has taken delivery of a new SENNEBOGEN 5500.
The company has put the 180-tonne crawler crane to work as a loading machine for wind farm developments.
Green energy represents a rapidly emerging market in Germany, as the country continues to build more wind turbines. However, such growth sometimes creates new difficulties. In Westphalia, for example, large wind farms are being built in open spaces – ideal locations but logistically challenging.
With the help of the SENNEBOGEN crawler, however, Neeb has been able to easily overcome such obstacles. Components for the wind turbines arrive by truck on a daily basis, and the 5500 is used to unload the cargo at a central logistics site.
Although turbine parts can weigh as much as 64 tonnes, Neeb has been able to use the crane’s 41m-long boom and 120kN winch to load and unload the hefty components with relative ease.
Neeb is pleased with the flexibility and reliability provided by the SENNEBOGEN machine’s wide-gauge crawler undercarriage.
“With the SENNEBOGEN 5500 crawler crane, we can work with extreme flexibility and we are even safely underway under load,” said company owner Gustav Armin Neeb. “Even after a short time, the high reliability has already convinced us.”
The crawler crane’s self-assembly system means that it will be possible for the machine to be transported between different deployment sites in the future.
