Earlier this week, we brought you the news that Genie received an order for one of its new ZX-135 articulating booms within hours of the official opening of the Big 5 2013. Today, we can reveal that the Terex-owned manufacturer received a second order for a second unit on the second day of the event.
Genie’s ZX-135 self-propelled articulating boom is capable of lifting a two-man team with a weight of up to 272kg to a height of over 43m. Impressively, because of its new X-design drive chassis, the unit is able to be transported on the back of a low-bed trailer without any additional permits.
PMV Live at the Big 5 offered the ideal launch platform for the ZX-135 in the Middle East, according to Sharbel Kordahi, general manager of Terex Arial Work Platforms.
“From a construction perspective, the Big 5 is the main exhibition in the region,” he explained. “A lot of potential customers come to see the machinery on display in the PMV Live outdoor exhibition area. That said, we made the decision not to participate in the event during the last three years because of the economic situation that affected the international construction market.
“We were confident, however, that 2013 would be the right time to exhibit at the Big 5,” Kordahi continued. “The markets are recovering; we have experienced significant growth in 2012 and 2013.”
Genie’s decision to exhibit this year has certainly paid off. Two orders in as many days is impressive by anybody’s standards.
“We managed to sell the first boom to a customer from Iraq just two hours after the show opened on Monday,” said Kordahi. “We received another order for a ZX-135 on the second day of the Big 5 from a customer in Saudi Arabia. Two machines in two days is an excellent rate of success.”
