Al-Princess Construction & Quarry (ACQ) used a team of Volvo excavators to remove 99,000m3 of earth for the development of Doha’s West Side Car Park.
The project required machines capable of working for 12 hours per day in temperatures of up to 49°C. ACQ used a fleet of 35 Volvo Construction Equipment machines at the West Side Car Park site, including EC210, EC290, EC240, EC360 and EC460 B-Series crawler excavators.
“Our Volvo machines work all day and we can always rely on them to get a job done,” said Maher Shaiya, general manager of ACQ. “Volvo excavators are more productive than other brands because of their swing capabilities and cycle times. Volvo machines, as a rule, are extremely fuel efficient and easy to maintain.”
The work was carried out as part of the development of Qatar’s Education City: the largest educational experiment in the Gulf. The 14km2 district contains a host of international schools that cater to Doha’s growing expat community, and houses colleges and branch campuses of some of the world’s leading universities.
The West Side Car Park project, which is owned by MAN Enterprise, contains 2,959 car parking spaces. The four-storey superstructure covers an area of approximately 45,000m2, and features a basement level, a people-mover system (PMS) and a bus concourse.
