Liebherr has sold a LiSIM mobile harbour crane simulator in the Middle East. The virtual reality training tool is to be installed at Saqr Port in Ras Al Kaimah, UAE, and will be the first of its kind in the region.
The German crane manufacturer launched LiSIM earlier this year. The modern training solution uses original software and hardware allowing for cost-effective and highly immersive crane operator training. One of the major benefits offered by the tool is its ability to simulate harsh environmental conditions when required. This functionality allows both novice and veteran crane operators to gain valuable experience from LiSIM whilst working in a consequence-free environment.
Saqr Port has selected the classroom version of the Liebherr technology as it can be easily integrated into its existing training facility. Port chiefs have also ordered an LHM 550 to strengthen their existing harbour crane fleet.
The LHM 550 mobile harbour crane features Liebherr’s Pactronic system for efficient bulk handling. The machine is compatible with a range of exchangeable lifting attachments, meaning that it can also be used for container handling and general cargo operation if necessary.
Once the new LHM 550 has been delivered, Saqr Port will be operating with a fleet of six Liebherr mobile harbour cranes. It is hoped that the combination of simulator-based training and high-speed machinery will serve to improve productivity at the site.
Both the LiSIM unit and the LHM 550 are to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2014.
