Liebherr has picked up the Construction Equipment Design Innovation Award at this year’s International Construction Equipment Forum (ICEF) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The prize was awarded in recognition of Liebherr’s PowerBoom concept, which the ICEF jury said significantly increased load capacity whilst offering increased economy and flexibility for users.
Liebherr’s PowerBoom enables the load capacity of large crawler cranes to be increased by more than 50% at relatively low cost. Sections in the lower part of the lattice boom are aligned parallel to one another, thus significantly increasing the boom’s strength. As the lattice sections can be used for the parallel boom, the only additional components necessary are two lattice adapters.
The PowerBoom concept staved off competition from six other innovative designs to win the award. The prize’s scope covered components and part systems for construction equipment that have been available on the market since January 2012.
