Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has donated $200,000 of aid to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

The group, which is the parent company of Hyundai Construction Equipment, distributed the money through the Korean Red Cross.

In addition to financial support, HHI has sent an excavator and a backhoe loader to the affected region. The firm has also dispatched experienced operators to help with recovery efforts.

Typhoon Haiyan caused devastation to parts of Southeast Asia in 2013, especially the Philippines. The tropical cyclone is estimated to have caused in excess of 6,000 deaths.

“We express our deep condolences to the victims of the typhoon,” said HHI Group president and CEO Lee Jai-Seong. “We will provide as much assistance as we can in order to help the victims reclaim their normal lives.”

The donations were made as part of HHI’s commitment to the countries within which it operates. The company has made similar aid efforts during recent years in affected parts of Brazil, Japan, China and Haiti.
