Three Volvo Construction Equipment products scooped prizes at the Red Dot product design awards.
The EC380E tracked excavator, the Volvo Visibility Vest, and the BP30L Identity Backpack were all recognised by the 40-strong Red Dot jury. The three products join Volvo CE’s previous Red Dot winners, which include articulated haulers, wheel loaders, and other excavators.
“We are thrilled that three Volvo CE products have been awarded this internationally recognised mark of design excellence,” commented Anders P Larsson, executive vice president for technology at Volvo CE.
The EC380E is from Volvo’s latest generation of excavators, and represents a complete redesign, according to the manufacturer. The Volvo Visibility Vest and BP30L Identity Backpack, meanwhile, are the first merchandise items to be fully developed by the same designers responsible for the creation of Volvo CE’s machines.
“The EC380E, the Volvo Visibility Vest, and the BP30L Identity Backpack represent a unified Volvo brand,” explained Larsson.
“Our designers approached the merchandise project just as they do when designing construction equipment. The modern appearance and innovative design of each product reflects the premium quality of the Volvo brand,” he added.
The Red Dot design competition was established in 1954 with the motto, “in search of excellence”. All products are judged according to their degree of innovation, their level of functionality, and their durability.
“Only the best products receive an award from the jury,” said Prof Dr Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot.
“This is especially reflected in the percentage of successful entries in the Red Dot Award, which is much smaller in contrast to other international design competitions. Therefore, the winners can be proud of their achievements – with their entries, they stood out from the rest and were able to pass the test in front of the critical eyes of the experts,” he concluded.
