Two Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 mobile cranes have been used to lift a pair of giant cold boxes at the Port of Passau in Bavaria, Germany.
The boxes were almost 30m in length, and weighed more than 150 tonnes. The Liebherr cranes were supplied by partner companies – Deggendorf-based Kran Saller and Winhöring-headquartered Kranverleih Saller.
Situated on the River Danube, the Port of Passau plays a major role in goods handling at the meeting point between Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. The Liebherr units joined forces to lift the two cold boxes from their low loader onto a freighter. Each box was 28m long, 8m wide, and 5m tall.
Lifting specialist Kran Saller enjoys a close working relationship with Liebherr. In addition to its LTM 1400-7.1, the firm recently took delivery of an LTM 1250-6.1. Moreover, Saller is looking further strengthen its fleet with the addition of a 750-tonne capacity LTM 1750-9.1, due to arrive next month.
Kran Saller has ordered the LTM 1750-9.1 with a full complement of equipment. The company has stated that the heavy-duty crane will be used for a variety of lifting applications across a range of sectors, including petrochemicals, bridge construction, and wind energy.
