Renault Trucks has announced plans to establish a $6.6mn workshop in Doha, Qatar.

The news comes following the French auto maker’s biggest commercial vehicles deal in the area, with a 190-truck order from Doha Municipality.

Renault will build the facility in conjunction with its authorised Qatari dealer, Al-Attiya Motors & Trading Company (AMTC).

“Our relationship with Renault Trucks is a partnership,” explained Mohammed Maali, CEO of AMTC.

“We are not purchasers and they are not vendors. We are partners. Recently, we secured a major tender for 190 trucks from Doha Municipality. If it wasn’t for the support and contribution of Renault Trucks towards this tender, we wouldn’t have been able to bid, let alone win.”

Due to rapid development in the Qatari market, Renault and AMTC expect to grow their activities by more than 30% during the period 2012 to 2015. Approximately 2,000 Renault Trucks are currently in operation across Qatar, and once open, the Doha workshop will help accommodate the increasing demand for maintenance.

“Qatar is a very important market for Renault Trucks, and the support of AMTC and their commitment to the brand in their region is invaluable,” commented Lars-Erik Forsbergh, President of Renault Trucks Middle East.

Located in Doha Industrial Area, the Renault Trucks workshop will offer easy access for regular servicing and maintenance. The facility will boast an operating capacity of 300 job cards per month.

AMTC has also announced that it is to begin operating a 280 hp Midlum mobile workshop. The truck will allow the dealer to provide aftersales support to Renault customers across Qatar, regardless of the remoteness of their locations.
