Caterpillar has introduced the 329D2 crawler excavator to the Middle East construction market.

The 30-tonne Tier 2 model has been fitted with a Cat C7.1 engine and a three-stage fuel-filtration system to deal with dirty diesel prevalent across the region.

The US-headquartered manufacturer has also opted to endow the 329D2 with an array of premium features, including cross-sensing hydraulics, strengthened major structures, and an ergonomic cab.

“The design of the Cat C7.1 engine is field proven and has a worldwide reputation for powerful, reliable performance,” commented Caterpillar.

“An advanced fuel-filtration system makes the engine less sensitive to low-quality fuel, and the radial-sealed air filter features a double-layered filter core for maximum filtration capability.

“An automatic engine-speed-control system reduces rpm during no-load/light-load conditions for added fuel savings, and the ‘high horsepower mode’ delivers maximum power for demanding tasks,” the manufacturer added.

The 329D2 features a pilot-operated hydraulic system with a pair of cross-sensing main pumps. This arrangement allows the machine to utilise all of the engine’s power for maximum hydraulic efficiency, according to Caterpillar.

The excavator also features a non-ROPS cab, in which operators can adjust the right and left joystick consoles to fit their requirements. A high-resolution LCD monitor, which is 40% larger than that fitted to previous models, has also been made available.

In addition, Caterpillar has worked to ensure ease of maintenance, with service doors on the upper structure of the 329D2 to provide ground-level access to the main pumps, pilot filter, water separator, pump filter, radiator, oil coolers, and fuel cooler.

As with its counterparts from Cat’s revamped range of back-to-basics D Series excavators, a 30-tonne 329D2 L model will be made available for end users who require increased stability on unforgiving terrain.
