Oman National Transport Company (ONTC) has revealed its intention to upgrade the Sultanate’s public buses.
The move, according to the organisation, will help to preserve the environment as well as curb traffic congestion in the capital city, Muscat.
ONTC has stated its commitment to upgrading the specifications of Oman’s public buses to international standards.
Officials contend that one modern bus can replace 40 private vehicles, thus saving energy, reducing emissions, lowering noise pollution, and cutting down the prevalence of road accidents.
The company will also launch a study of public transport in Muscat under the supervision of the Sultanate’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, according to the Times of Oman.
ONTC will link various means of transportation, such as buses, taxis, ferries, and trains, to provide integrated transportation services for Muscat and its surrounding areas.
