GTS Demolition has revealed its intention to add a Wacker Neuson EZ38 to its fleet.
The Dubai-headquartered subcontractor purchased its first Wacker Neuson unit – an ET24 mini-excavator – less than a year ago.
In an interview with PMV, Rob Smith, operations manager at GTS, said that he and his team are now considering the possibility of complementing their existing machine with a larger model.
“We’re actually looking into the ET24’s bigger brother, the EZ38,” he revealed.
“The EZ38 features a closed cab, but it still has rubber tracks. What we tend to find is that when we’re working internally, as long as a cab is below 2.7m – which they generally are – we have enough room to work,” he added.
GTS specialises in precise deconstruction applications. Since 2013, the firm has been enlisted to make way for capacity increases at Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall, Dubai Festival City Mall, and BurJuman.
Smith purchased its ET24 from Wacker Neuson’s authorised UAE dealer, CMC, due to the nature of its work. The machine’s compact dimensions and rubber tracks make it ideal for the type of work that GTS typically undertakes.
Despite its diminutive size, Smith and his colleagues have been impressed with the power delivered by the mini-excavator.
“This is a 2.4-tonne model so effectively, it should be used with a relatively small hammer,” he explained.
“However, CMC convinced us that the ET24 was powerful enough to run our hydraulic breaker, which we would typically use in conjunction with a 4.5-tonne-class carrier.
“If you’re carrying an attachment that’s too heavy for your machine then it won’t perform. But CMC was right; despite its size, the ET24 has proved itself capable of handling this attachment really effectively,” said Smith.
The acquisition of an EZ38, meanwhile, would further increase GTS’ scope of demolition capabilities.
“Of course, the larger excavator could deliver greater levels of power, and with both the ET24 and the EZ38 at our disposal, we would be able to cover a broader spectrum of applications,” Smith concluded.
