Mobile crane maker Tadano has achieved an environmental certificate, having made substantial modifications to its plant in Shido, Japan.
The most noticeable difference is that the roof of the sprawling factory has been almost entirely covered with photovoltaic cells, which will provide a percentage of power, with a peak of about 260kw.
Other points the company have change include a new way of sorting and recycling various packing materials and even a new uniform for the summer months, to help save on running the air conditioning. The firm has also carried out a review of other business areas.
Starting on the development and promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility in 2005, we set up an ‘ecological committee’ to reduce the environmental footprint of our factories and other facilities.
In a statement a spokesperson for the company said “Tadano and its five subsidiaries have worked to establish a plan-do-check-act cycle system and meet the ISO14001: 2004 requirements. Earlier this year, we passed an initial screening audit carried out by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Ltd., a certified agency.
“We plan on making greater efforts to address issues of appropriate disposal of and recycling of waste, development of eco-friendly products, reducing energy consumption and heightening the environmental awareness of staff.”
