Genie has revealed its intention to launch the SX-150 telescopic boom to the Middle East during the third quarter of 2015.
The aerial work platform (AWP) manufacturer will introduce the model, which has recently been released in the North American market, to supplement its existing high-end boom range.
With a maximum platform height of 38.15m, the SX-150 will sit midway between Genie’s S-125 and SX-180 models.
“If we wanted to, we could start selling the North American version of the SX-150 tomorrow. However, [here in the Middle East] we prefer the CE units because of the overload-prevention and safety features that they offer,” explained Sharbel Kordahi, general manager for the Middle East at Genie’s parent company, Terex Aerial Work Platforms.
“With this in mind, we’re looking at a quarter-three launch window for the SX-150 in the Middle East,” he revealed.
The move follows Genie’s 2014 introduction of the SX-150’s bigger brother to the Middle East. With a maximum platform height of 54.86m, the SX-180 is the largest self-propelled boom in Genie’s line-up. Nevertheless, Kordahi told PMV that the commonality that exists between the two models means that Genie’s local dealer network is already equipped to service the SX-150.
“The similarity that the SX-150 has with the SX-180 gives us a huge advantage in terms of getting our aftermarket team members up to speed with the servicing of the team,” he said.
“Our technicians and service managers have all taken part in intensive courses. They also shadow each and every machine that is delivered to the Middle East market. Every time a customer is due to take delivery of a Genie unit, we send specialists to their site when the AWP arrives on the low bed,” he concluded.
