Abu Dhabi Department of Transport has awarded a 10-year contract to Ströer Concept Outdoor (SCO) for the provision of air-conditioned bus shelters in the capital.
Under the contract, worth approximately 100 million UAE dirhams, German-based SCO will design, install and commission 550 bus stop shelters across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi including Al Ain and the western region.
The move follows the investment by the RTA of air-conditioned bus shelters in Dubai through a partnership with Right Angle Media.
In a statement, the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport said it awarded the contract to SCO after an intense selection process and thorough evaluation of all proposals, including one from Right Angle Media.
The installation of the bus shelters is part of an ongoing initiative in Abu Dhabi to reduce dependency on private vehicles and encourage use of public transport.
“The new transport network will link the entire emirate and make commuting by bus more appealing to a wider population. The bus stop shelters are an integral part of the whole initiative and we are confident of having chosen the company with the right expertise, said Saeed Al Hameli, general manager, Bus Office, Department of Transport.
SCO is the result of a tie-up between German outdoor marketing giant Ströer Group, and Concept Outdoor, an outdoor marketing solution firm.
