The Palfinger P 480 vehicle-mounted access platform has been named ‘Product of the Year’ at the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) 2015.
The model also scooped first prize in the ‘vehicle-mounted platform’ category.
Palfinger was awarded the titles by an IAPA jury made up of industry executives.
Commenting on the product’s launch, which took place in Q3 2014, the manufacturer said: “Palfinger is opening a new chapter in the field of ultra-modern access platforms with the new ‘Jumbo Class NX’ model series. The combination of innovative technology, weigh-optimised design, and unparalleled flexibility during usage makes the new P 480 access platform a universal talent for the most varied of tasks.”
The Palfinger P 480 boasts a hydraulically operated X-jib between its upper boom and workman basket, providing the unit with a 240° movement radius. This means that, when combined with the 400° (2×200°) rotation of the workman basket, the vehicle-mounted platform can achieve exact alignments with buildings and masts, or beneath overhangs.
The platform boasts a maximum height of 48m and an outreach of 31.5m. Even so, the P 480tips the scales at less than 18 tonnes and is mounted to a double-axle chassis.
“The range of applications for truck access platforms is growing at breakneck speed,” said Palfinger’s platforms product manager, Susan Ruddiman.
“With our many years of experience in the Jumbo Class, and the innovative technology in the new P 480 Jumbo Class next generation (NX), we are able to satisfy these new profile applications,” she concluded.
