JCB donates more units to Nepal after second quake

Following its first $1m consignment of backhoe loaders and generator sets, the British manufacturer has donated a further $250,000 of kit to the earthquake-stricken country

JCB has announced that it will donate a further $250,000 of equipment to support Nepalese relief efforts following the occurrence of two major earthquakes within the space of three weeks.

The latest donation will supplement the $1m consignment dispatched by the British manufacturer in the wake of the first earthquake, which hit in late April.

The second earthquake struck on Tuesday, killing dozens of people and injuring more than 1,000 others. The initial quake killed more than 8,000 people, and left thousands more injured and homeless.

JCB chairman, Lord Bamford, commented: “As the days have gone by, our Nepalese dealer has advised of the need for small and manoeuvrable machines [that] can access confined areas, and machines [that] can lift and place heavy loads. JCB is happy to respond with the donation of an additional four machines, particularly as the country has now suffered a second earthquake.”

JCB’s second consignment includes skid-steer loaders to operate within confined spaces, and a pick-and carry Loadall telehandler to lift and load debris in the worst-affected areas.

JCB is supplying the machines through its authorised Nepalese dealer, MAW Enterprises.
