Himoinsa has delivered 29 generator sets to power the high-speed railway line between Saudi Arabia’s high-speed railway line between Mecca and Medina.
The Spanish manufacturer’s gensets will be used to power various sections of the line, which crosses both coastal and desert areas of the Kingdom.
The units have been ordered by Cobra, one of 12 companies that comprise the Spanish consortium responsible for implementing the high-speed project.
A spokesperson from Cobra commented: “There were two main reasons why we chose Himoinsa generator sets. On the one hand, the success we’ve experienced with Himoinsa on many other projects; and on the other hand, the fact that Himoinsa can guarantee a local service in Saudi Arabia through the company’s regional technical/sales team.”
Himoinsa will deliver 38 generators in total for the Mecca-Medina high-speed line. The 29 units installed so far include HFW 155 T6, HFW 200 T6, HFW 250 T6, and HFW 290 T6 models. The gensets still to be installed include several HMW 405 T6 models.
The high-speed rail corridor between Mecca and Medina will serve 166,000 passengers daily. Trains travelling at speeds of up to 320 km/h will make the 444km journey in less than three hours. The project is due to complete in 2016.
