Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is organising workshops for contractors, consultants and site safety and supervisory personnel after a faults analysis committee noticed a sharp rise in instances of “damage caused to underground cables” in the past three years.

In the committee’s analysis of electricity distribution faults it was revealed that a large percentage of these faults are being caused by “damage to underground cables by external agencies/third parties”.

The first workshop raising awareness about this damage to cables among parties in the construction industry, as well as utility providers and municipal organisations involved in national infrastructure projects, like the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, and the Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail).

The event served as a guidance for safe digging practices and how to avoid dangers related to high-voltage cables, and also discussed the regulatory and mandatory procedures to be followed before taking up any excavation work.

Kahramaa is determined to realise it own vision and commitment to “provide uninterrupted power supply” to consumers by stamping out all and any interruptions caused by external cable damage.
