Two Linden Comansa tower cranes are supporting the construction of Thailand’s tallest building.
PACE Development Corporation enlisted Linden Comansa’s official Thai distributor, Buoygues-Thai by Smart (1994), to conduct heavy lifting at MahaNakhon tower, a 314m-tall, 77-floor skyscraper under construction in Bangkok.
A Linden Comansa LCL310 luffing-jib model has been located at the base of the tower since 2012. With a maximum load of 24 tonnes and a freestanding height of 40.4m, its first duty was the construction of the MahaNakhon CUBE, which opened in 2014. Since then, the unit has unloaded all construction materials that have arrived at the job site, arranging, distributing, and hoisting them to the tower’s lower floors.
The second unit, an 18-tonne capacity 21LC290 flat-top model, has been installed at the top of MahaNakhon. Initially, it was erected on fixing angles with a freestanding height of 60.7m, but as the tower grew, the crane was able to rise accordingly due to an internal climbing system tied to the structure of the building. This system only requires 11 mast sections. By contrast, an external crane would need more than 60 mast sections to reach a height of 340m.
At 314m in height, MahaNakhon is already the tallest building in Thailand. From 2016, the skyscraper will house a hotel, a shopping area, and luxury apartments. On completion, the building will also sport a ‘pixelated’ façade.
