Tunnelling works for Doha Metro are around 85% complete, and overall project completion stands at 37%, Qatar Rail has confirmed. Â
All 37 stations of Doha Metro’s first phase are currently under construction.Â
Concrete roof slabs are being cast for 17 of these stations.Â
Furthermore, tunnelling works on Doha Metro Red Line’s northern section have reported full completion.Â
The northern section spans 41km from Msheireb to Lusail, and comprises the Al Qassar station, where a mock-up station has been built to showcase the materials which will be used for the stations’ interiors.Â
Four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) worked on the Red Line, digging 30m per day.Â
The end of digging works means 70% of total construction works at Red Line’s northern section are now complete, according to The Peninsula.
Remarking on the achievement, Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, managing director of Qatar Rail, said: “We are particularly delighted by the progress on this section of the project as we and our colleagues have had to overcome some significant challenges.
“It is well known that one of our TBMs was flooded one year ago and the achievement today shows how effective our recovery operations were and that overall project progress was not affected.”Â
