Students of the UAE’s Khalifa University have devised a bridge design, which allows the structure to “harvest” energy.

The bridge is a senior design project carried out by the students of Khalifa University’s civil engineering and mechanical engineering programmes.

A prototype design promises to utilise bridge vibrations caused by vehicles, wind, and pedestrians to fuel the structures’ LED lights.

This design was on exhibit at the American Society of Civil Engineering’s 2016 Carolinas Conference at A&T University.

Masdar sponsored the students’ visit to the conference, according to state agency WAM. Â
