Roots Group Arabia has delivered 80 Chicago Pneumatic CPSG stationary generators to the BACS consortium working on Riyadh Metro – one of the world’s largest metro systems – scheduled for completion in 2018.

BACS is using the 80 gensets to help construct Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro Project, which has six lines and a total length of 170km, more than 73.4km of which is underground, and 80 stations.

Roots Group Arabia, an official distributor of Chicago Pneumatic in Saudi Arabia, convinced BACS to make the order for 20x ‘CPSG185’ (185 KW/235 KVA) models, 30x ‘CPSG40’ (40 KW/ 50 KVA) models, and another 30x ‘CPSG18’ (18 KW/ 22.5 KVA) models, based on their durability and productivity.

This, in addition to the aftersales support committed to by Roots Group (including the promise of one technician per site), resulted in an order of $975,000 being placed in June 2015 for the total fleet of 80 units.

Ashraf Hemaidah, deputy general manager of Roots Group Arabia, noted: “The Riyadh Metro is a very time sensitive project. One of the key requirements of the client was to keep all the equipment running safely to prevent any possible delays and cut downtime costs.

“With our package of support services, the customer doesn’t need to worry about any possible disruptions and delays. The technical characteristics of the generators also make it easier to meet local health, safety, and environment requirements.”

The generators are powering road and tunnel lighting, offices, power tools and water coolers, and must be able to run continuously for 24 hours and 36 hours with limited idle time and under high ambient temperatures.

The 80 units also come equipped with tough canopies featuring UV-resistant panes that protect the engine and control panel and also repel the sand storms frequently experienced in Saudi Arabia.

CPSG gensets are also easy to install due to their dual-position (top and front) air outlets, and eco-friendly, and feature a spillage-free frame design that allows for the quick and easy removal of liquids. The are readily serviceable via large and also removable 45° doors.
