Sharjah leisure destination Al Qasba has unveiled two free charging stations for electric vehicles as part of the emirate’s green parking initiative by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) aimed at promoting sustainable ecosystem.

“The launch of green parking in Al Qasba through the establishment of two charging stations for electric cars is a significant boost to Sharjah government’s efforts and advances the emirate’s status as an eco-friendly city,” said Sultan Mohammed Shattaf, manager of Al Qasba.

“As electric vehicles become more established, we anticipate that the number of charging stations will increase accordingly, and Al Qasba will then install additional stations as required.”

As part of the official inauguration ceremony, a pair of electric BMW i8s were parked – one at either locations in Al Qasba’s car park – to demonstrate the effectiveness of the recharging technique.

The event also hosted an electric cars expert to answer questions from the audience and explain how the vehicles work, in the process revealing their technology and the parts used in their manufacture.

Shattaf added: “This initiative is of particular importance to Al Qasba as it enables us to raise the awareness of our visitors about the significance of sustainability and the measures needed to conserve the environment.”

He continued: “Customers who drive electric vehicles can now avail a free-of-charge recharging service while they are enjoying the world-class facilities at Al Qasba, including its cafes, restaurants, theatre, kids’ areas and numerous other attractions.”

Al Qasba offers a range of facilities and tourist attractions, including restaurants, cafes, the Kids Fun Zone, the Al Qasba Musical Fountain, the Eye of the Emirates Ferris wheel and the Maraya Art Centre, among other facilities designed to meet the needs of visitors of all ages.
