Egypt’s Alexandria Container and Cargo Handling Co. (ACCHCO) has ordered 21 lift trucks from Konecranes’ Egyptian distributor, Tad Trade: seven empty container handlers and 14 laden handlers.

The machines, scheduled for delivery in late 2016, will operate in both of ACCHCO’s two major container terminals in the country.

The ports of Alexandria and El-Dekheila, opened in 1984 and 1996 respectively, handle a throughput of 990,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), and the Konecranes units will support ongoing growth.

“Alexandria terminal and El-Dekheila terminal handle nearly 70% of Egypt’s foreign trade,” explains Admiral. Mamdouh Tawfik Draz, chairman of the board and CEO of ACCHCO.

“We prioritise equipment that is reliable and efficient while offering a low total cost of ownership. We have always been impressed with the quality of service and support from Konecranes and Tad Trade, and are happy to continue that relationship.”

The Konecranes lift trucks ordered by ACCHCO will be fitted with the manufacturer’s Optima cabs, which provides a spacious, ergonomic work space for the driver equipped with 7” MD4 touchscreens to monitor all vital components and function of the trucks.

Andreas Falk, sales and marketing director for Konecranes Lift Trucks, concluded: “The lift trucks are designed with the latest technology to help our customers improve their safety and increase the efficiency. These orders are a great result of a good cooperation.”

Tad Trade stated: “We not only to deliver exceptional equipment but to also ensure that the machines operate at maximum efficiency. We are certain that with these investments ACCHCO will become an even more vital player in North African container handling.”

Konecranes has 11,600 employees at 600 locations in 48 countries. The Finnish company is listed on the Nasdaq Helsinki, and in 2015 registered sales of $2.37bn.
