Dubai Customs has developed a vehicle to expedite customs clearance operations for select passenger groups at airports in the emirate.Â
The smart customs clearance vehicle will start to be deployed for disabled, elderly, and VIP passengers later this month.Â
The eco-friendly electric-powered golf buggy has been equipped with a security camera; a facial recognition device; two movable electronic chairs for the customs inspector and passenger; three smart screens; a document verification device; a luggage screening table; and other facilities.Â
Dubai Customs’ senior inspection team leader Mohammad Al Khanjari has been credited with developing the vehicle.
Remarking on the vehicle’s ideation and imminent roll-out, Al Khanjari said: “This smart cart is [aimed at helping] reduce queuing at Customs inspection stations.
“It is expected to enter service and be fully operative at Dubai’s airports by 15 November.”
A patent for the vehicle has been registered with the UAE’s Ministry of Economy, Al Khanjari added, according to Dubai Media Office.Â
