Danish technology firm Nerve upped the excitement at Gulf Traffic 2016 with the presentation of the world’s fastest driverless motorcycle – capable of reaching speeds of up to 300km/h – at the event.
Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belheif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, also took the time to stop by Nerve’s booth where he was introduced to the company’s latest development in electric and autonomous vehicle technology.
While the Autonomous Street Racer motorcycle is the world-record holder in its class for acceleration times, Nerve brought a range of other projects more specifically aimed at disrupting urban transportation models.
The flagship example is Nerve’s Smart Cruiser; an intelligent solar-powered city bus that is not only green, but high-speed and tough in all conditions, with all-terrain suspension and integrated robotics.
In the Gulf Traffic conference, Nerve Founder and chief technology officer Soeren Ekelund shed light on the delicate balance between people, society and technology in an effort to fuel discussion on how technology can be used to drive Dubai’s Smart City ambitions.
Ekelund noted: “These are really exciting times in the world of transport and mobility. Sustainable development is forcing everyone to rethink the concept of public and private transportation. The vehicles of the future have to be more flexible, stronger, faster, smarter and greener.
“It’s no longer sufficient to think about how a vehicle meets the needs of an individual – how it gets him or her from A to B – rather, we need to consider the requirements of society as a whole.”
Nerve was set up in 2002 and works with governments and private corporations around the world to provide solutions to challenges affecting transport, urban planning, civil defense and energy. It has partnered with Danish Railroads, Tesla, Jaguar, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Google, among others.
Ekelund added: “It’s a privilege to be part of this automotive revolution, and we’re looking to Dubai very closely as a fertile breeding ground for the smart technologies of tomorrow”.
Nerve will begin international operations out of Dubai from November 2016.
