Emirates Motor Company (EMC), Mercedes-Benz distributor for Abu Dhabi and an Al Fahim Group firm, has pledged to donate AED 10 for every yard hit by Rickie Fowler and Marcel Siem off the 2nd and 8th tees at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to the Special Care Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Both holes are par fives, where a drive of around 300 yards is possible, meaning Mercedes-Benz Ambassadors Fowler and Siem could drive roughly 600 yards in each round – for a potential of 4,800 yards or AED 48,000 if both play all four rounds.
Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has also pledged to match EMC’s ultimate contribution, which should make for a donation of close to AED100,000 to the Special Care Centre.
The initiative was inspired by UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving, with the aim of strengthening social responsibility in the private sector.
