Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), has received two Golf GTE plug-in hybrid cars from Al Nabooda Automobiles, the distributer for Volkswagen in Dubai and the UAE’s northern emirates.
Both cars have gone through a “year-long hot weather test… by Dubai Municipality” in the UAE, and are part of a 10-strong fleet that has completed 100,000km in the country during “the super-hot summer months of 2016”.Â
Eng Muammar Al Katheeri, executive vice president of engineering and smart city at DSOA received the cars’ keys from Thierry Seys, ‎general manager of Al Nabooda Automobiles.Â
The cars will be used by the engineering and smart city team that Al Katheeri leads at DSOA.Â
Remarking on the development, Seys said: “Partnering with DSOAÂ is only the logical step when it comes to testing the Golf GTE.
“We see a huge opportunity in [Dubai] and foresee demand from consumers in the future for electric mobility solutions.”
According to Dubai Media Office, Al Katheeri said the vehicles boost Volkswagen’s “efforts in supporting DSO as a proof of concept for smart city solutions”.Â
